Fishing App

Came across a neat fishing app on Ontario Out of Doors Forum, it is a fishing app called "Fishing Calendar from SIS. This goes along with my other post regarding moon cycles. This app shows the sunrise and sunset times and moonrise and moon set times and also rates the efficiency of the days based on these sun and moon cycles and gives the peak fishing hours based on the cycles.

The image in this post is from the app and is showing a top fishing day on Saturday, May 5th. Pike and Lake Trout season will be open then. As I have not yet learned the skills to go after the Lake Trout I will focus on the pike that day and we will see how the results match what the app says.

Moon Cycles

One of the things I will be doing next year is keeping track of many things when I catch a fish to try and develop some trends and patterns. As some of these will be seasonal, some of these may not be revealed for a few years.

A few weeks ago on Grey Owl I had the best bass fishing day of my life. I caught a lot of fish, but also caught and released a lot of big bass.

Just for fun I just looked back to see what the moon cycle was for that day, September 27th. It was the exact day of the new moon.

I googled information regarding the moon and sun cycles and came across an interesting article on where the author was not a true believer of the solunar tables but did find his own corelation to the moon and sun rise and fall times. Starting the Parry Sound Area Fishing Blog

In 2012, I will post daily logs of my fishing and will try and identify good spots to fish, what fishing patterns work best, what lures are most successful and will try and correlate weather conditions and water temperature with successful fishing.

My love is bass fishing, but will blog about my first attempts at Lake Trout fishing and my search for big pike.
